Dell Unveils XPS Brand of High-Performance Computers Also announces related services and TVs for home entertainment (September 28, 2005)

Product Backgrounder
On Sept. 28, 2005, Dell introduced new personal computers under the XPS brand and expanded its digital TV portfolio. The company also launched the Dell Dimension E510 desktop computer. Details on the new products are provided below. Dell XPS M170
With a full range of personalization options, the XPS M170 allows customers powerful computing and visual performance in a complete, yet mobile computer. The XPS M170 starts at $2,699 and is available in the United States. Additional features include:
-- Powered with new NVIDIA 256MB GeForce Go 7800 GTX Ultra graphics card
-- Dell MediaDirect for quick access to multimedia content from a hibernation, standby or powered-off mode
-- 17-inch TrueLife widescreen display
-- Black and silver chassis with LED perimeter lighting in 16 different colors, customizable via the XPS interface of Dell's power management application, QuickSet
-- Transparent personalization cover easily snaps on to the notebook's brushed-metal lid with included imagery from leading gaming titles




Dell XPS 600
The Dell XPS 600 delivers extreme speed, power and fun for gamers and enthusiasts with dual graphics and dual-core (two-in-one) processors, which enable customers to play games and stream music simultaneously without experiencing slow performance. The XPS 600 is available in the United States. Additional features include:
-- Realistic video and gaming provided by up to two NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX 256 MB x16 PCIe graphics cards with scalable link interface technology
-- Extreme performance with dual-core Intel Extreme Edition and Pentium D 8xx processors, or single-core Pentium 4 6xx processors
-- Up to 8 GB 667MHz DDR2 memory (requires 64-bit OS)(a)
-- Massive storage for games and media with up to three internal drives (up to 1.5 TB(b) of data)
-- Black and silver tool-less chassis with LED lighting in 8 customizable colors

Dell XPS 400
The multimedia hub for the home, the Dell XPS 400 offers high-end performance, runs quietly and provides easy access to ports and connectors for quick transfer of digital content. The XPS 400 starts at $1,099 and is available in the U.S. Additional features include:
-- Silver and white tool-less chassis incorporates Dell QuietCase and BTX technology for excellent reliability and quiet operation
-- Powerful performance with dual-core Pentium D 8xx processors, single-core Pentium 4 6xx processors and up to 4 GB DDR2 memory(c)
-- Advanced graphics support including optional 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX card
-- Up to 1 TB(b) of data storage for photos, music, videos and games (two internal hard drives)
-- Easy connection to digital devices with seven USB 2.0 ports; two optional IEEE 1394 ports; optional dual TV tuner; and optional 13-in-1 media card reader


Dell XPS 200
The Dell XPS 200 delivers the performance of dual-core processors and advanced graphics in a slim chassis about 12 inches tall and less than 4 inches wide. The XPS 200 starts at $1,149 and is available in the U.S. Additional features include:
-- Silver and white tool-less chassis with Dell QuietCase and BTX technology
-- Dual-core Pentium D 8xx processors, single-core Pentium 4 5x1 processors and up to 4 GB(c) shared(d) DDR2 memory for balanced performance
-- One internal hard drive
-- Seven USB 2.0 ports, optional IEEE 1394 port, one x16 PCIe slot and one x1 PCIe slot for expandability and connectivity
-- Multimedia features include one slim CD, CD-RW, DVD or combination drive; optional single TV tuner; 13-in-1 media card reader; and 256 MB graphics cards


Dell Dimension E510
The Dimension E510 desktop is ideal for customers who want a balance of value, performance and the latest technologies for entertainment and productivity. Starting at $729, it is available in the U.S. Additional features include:
-- Pentium 6xx and 5x1 processors and up to 4 GB(c) shared(d) DDR2 memory provide mainstream performance
-- Up to two internal hard drives for digital music, photos and videos
-- Silver and white tool-less chassis with Dell QuietCase and BTX technology
-- Entertainment features include standard Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 operating system; up to two CD, DVD or combination drives; optional dual TV tuner; 13-in-1 media card reader; and 256 MB graphics cards
-- Optional Windows XP Home and Professional operating systems


Dell W5001C Plasma and W3201C LCD HDTVs
The W5001C (50 inches) is the largest TV Dell offers and is designed for large rooms. The W3201C is designed for mid-sized rooms and apartments. Both televisions incorporate the latest advances in flat panel TV technology to deliver vivid, clear images with rich color detail. With robust connectivity, customers can connect HD devices, computers, DVD players and set top cable or satellite boxes, to name a few. Additional features include:
-- True high-definition resolution with WXGA (1,366X768) resolution
-- Excellent viewing experience with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio
-- Rich visual detail with 8,000:1 (W5001C) and 1,000:1 (W3201C) contrast ratios

-- Exquisite images in various lighting environments with 1,100 (W5001C) and 450 (W3201C) cd/m2 brightness
