MainConcept, a leader in video codecs and editing technology, today released its MPEG Pro editing plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro at the NAB04 show. The plug-in adds powerful MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 capturing, editing and exporting capabilities to the popular video editing application.
Although Premiere Pro can import MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files, for effective editing the material must be transcoded to the project?s format, such as DV. But if the project needs to be output to an MPEG format such as DVD, it has to be transcoded back to MPEG. Unnecessary transcoding can result in quality loss and lost productivity.
MainConcept MPEG Pro adds native MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 editing to Premiere Pro, using smart rendering and requantizing to eliminate unnecessary rendering. The plug-in also offers realtime MPEG capturing at up to DVD quality from a variety of analog and digital sources including DV camcorders, Sony MICROMV? camcorders, TV tuner cards, video cards with analog inputs, and various other devices. Expensive hardware encoders are no longer necessary for realtime capture. (Capture performance depends on system capabilities.) Also included is a powerful MPEG Encoder which can export directly from the Timeline to a wide variety of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 formats.
?We are proud to release MPEG Pro,? said Markus Moenig, founder and CEO of MainConcept. ?This plug-in makes it easy to capture, edit and export MPEG material in Premiere Pro.?
The standard version of MPEG Pro supports resolutions up to 720x480 (NTSC) and 720x576 (PAL). It is available for online purchasing and instant downloading for US$249 at http://www.mainconcept.com/mpeg_pro.shtml. The HD version adds support for various popular high-definition formats, including the ability to capture directly into Premiere Pro from JVC?s JY-HD10U camcorder. MPEG Pro does not offer HD acceleration, because such acceleration generally requires transcoding to another format for editing. With MPEG Pro, the goal is to keep MPEG material in its native format. The high-definition performance depends on system capabilities, and a free demo version is available for pre-purchase testing.
