AOL Chooses Autonomy's Virage Technology For Video Broadcast Platform

SAN MATEO, Calif., Dec. 09, 2003 -- Virage, Inc. a wholly owned division of Autonomy Corp. and a provider of video and rich media communication software, today announced that America Online, Inc. had chosen Virage to power its video content delivery platform through the AOL Broadband service.

AOL will use Virage Application Services to provide content processing for Video@AOL, a powerful new global video hub with a broad collection of broadband content, including news, music, movies, television, sports, local weather, games, travel, and original programming. Video@AOL is a one-stop, on-demand video destination. Together with built-in safety and security features, advanced communication tools, custom spam filters, and "anywhere, anytime" AOL features, Video@AOL makes AOL for Broadband the most complete broadband experience that can be added to any basic cable or DSL connection.[an error occurred while processing this directive]America Online is also using Virage's built-in capabilities to assemble content reels and assign them to AOL channels. For high-volume content such as breaking news, AOL is using the software's auto-packaging feature to make 3rd party content feeds immediately available on Video@AOL. Using Virage, AOL producers can program more timely and relevant broadband content for AOL members. AOL is the industry's leading Internet broadcaster, according to Arbitron.
