PRESS RELEASE:
Objective Data Storage Intros New Products for Medical Image Recording, Storage and Distribution at RSNA 2003
Scaleable, DICOM / HIPAA Compliant Solution Helps Healthcare Providers Improve Care, Lower Costs

CHICAGO, Dec. 03, 2003 -- Objective Data Storage, (ODS), an innovator in healthcare image storage systems, announced today that it's new MediDisc Image Recording System will be featured at the ODS Booth #2579 during RSNA 2003 this week at Chicago's McCormick Place. The MediDisc System, which begins shipping this month, is an effective solution for receiving, storing, recalling, and recording digital images onto CD and DVD optical discs. In addition to providing healthcare professionals with the tools they need to increase productivity, improve patient care and lower their costs, the MediDisc System is a truly convenient, simple to use, and reliable appliance. MediDisc was developed in alliance with Verbatim Corporation, the leading supplier of premium quality optical media.

The MediDisc System combines Verbatim's CD and DVD recordable media expertise with the ODS object-based software that is designed specifically to handle the large quantity of vital data generated in medical imaging. Equipped with one or more CD/DVD recorders and a built in server, users can receive DICOM images over the healthcare facility's network, from the central storage archive, or directly from the medical imaging systems. The patient image studies can then be stored locally, "pushed" to another workstation or written to a serialized MediDisc CD or DVD at the user's option. The MediDisc System is available in a choice of models, all built from a single, expandable product with an easy-to-use web browser-based interface. MediDisc can be used in a single workstation mode or expanded to a hospital-wide CD/DVD system.[an error occurred while processing this directive]The ODS-engineered software provides complete functionality with DICOM-compliant image records as well as HIPAA support, historical study access and connectivity to ODS' Image Archive Appliance, (IAA), which provides DICOM image lifecycle management. Manufactured to the highest quality standards with proprietary materials and processes, Verbatim MediDisc 52X CD-R and 4X DVD-R media provides consistent, error-free recording and the long archival life required for healthcare image records retention. For fast, easy identification of disc contents, such as patient or hospital data, MediDisc media are produced with inkjet or thermal label surfaces that can be printed with the MediDisc Image Recording System.

"The easy access and fast retrieval times that the MediDisc System provides can translate into increased productivity, improved workflow and ultimately, better patient care," said Boyce 'Mac' McCorkle, CEO of ODS. "These are compelling, long-term benefits for today's medical facilities, because they're looking for ways to maintain high-quality care in spite of having to work with smaller staffs and reduced budgets."

"MediDisc is the perfect accessory for medium and large scale PACs implementations and smaller radiology departments with digital imaging capability, "said Dean Beilke, Technical Director of ODS. "The typical systems provided by PACs suppliers may not provide users with the ability to output medical images to portable disc formats. With MediDisc, users have what is really a CD or DVD printer available to the system, able to record discs that can physically be transported, stored, or distributed. An optional DICOM reader may be written on the disc by the MediDisc system to enable viewing of medical images on most PCs."

The MediDisc System will be available for on-site customer demonstrations, evaluation, and presentation following the RSNA show.
